Unit 1

In Unit 1, we’ll go back to the basics, helping your child to understand the meaning of Islam and the manifestation of peace. What is our obligation as Muslims to care for our communities regardless of people’s faith or non-faith? What is the meaning of rahim? Why and how do we embrace non-Muslims as equals? We will also introduce the social justice context for which the Quran was revealed.

Finding Inner Peace

Family Activity: Guided Meditation

In this section of Unit 1, we’ll help to walk you and your child through a guided meditation to help our bodies and minds relax. We’ll try to find feelings of calm and peace, just like the feelings that Prophet Muhammad experienced while he was in meditation when the Angel Gabriel first spoke to him. We hope your child finishes this activity knowing how to find peace within themself and remembering what it means when one says “Islam is peace”.

Kindness

Getting To The Root Of It

In every aspect of the curriculum, we will instill kindness into the lessons to help your child recognize the importance of kindness and how to flex their kindness muscles. Unit 1 starts with the basics of kindness, introducing the meaning behind the word and some activities everyone can easily participate in.
